When it comes to SD cards there are literally hundreds out there to chose from. The most important things to consider when buying SD cards are 1.Size. 2.Speed. 3.Brand.
1 - Size - is dependent on how many photos you want to take, try to stick with a few smaller cards rather than one massive one, that way, if one card fails you till have others. I normally carry at least 5 8 gig.
2 - Speed - this determines how fast the memory card can handle what the camera is doing, if you plan on shooting video you'll need at least speed "4" however for normal photography "2" is fine.
3 - Brand - Some of the cheaper SD cards are well known for their failing ability. Cheaper cards may fail when you come back to read them for no apparent reason. Splash out what ever you can on SD Cards - after all, it's holding ALL your photos!
And remember back up, Back Up, BACK UP!!!
